Find Waldo Local

Each year, Waldo, from the iconic Where’s Waldo series, travels to towns across the United States for some hide-and-seek fun! Designed to encourage residents to patronize their local businesses, Candlewick Press and the American Booksellers Association are teaming up with 310 independent bookstores nationwide, including The Lost Bookshop in Delhi, NY, for a family-friendly scavenger hunt to find the iconic children’s book character. A cut-out will be hiding, with his red-and-white-striped shirt and black glasses, in twenty-five local businesses.

To participate in this special event taking place throughout July, people can simply pick up a “Find Waldo Local in Delhi!” stamp card at any of the participating stores. Searchers get their cards stamped or signed by the participating shop when they spot the miniature Waldo. Eagle-eyed hunters can also look for Waldo’s special 2024 gold medal hidden in The Lost Bookshop. Collecting store stamps or signatures at twenty or more businesses will entitle diligent seekers to enter into a grand prize drawing for Waldo books and other prizes. All participants are welcome to attend the celebration party at The Lost Bookshop on July 31st!

If you are interested in hiding Waldo in your local business and participating in this lively scavenger hunt, please email Emily Helck at thelostbookshoponline@gmail.com

If you are interested in participating in finding Waldo, stay tuned to find out which stores will host Waldo for the Find Waldo Local event beginning on July 1st.

Spring Hiking in the Greater Delhi Area

Warmer weather is finally here, at least for this week, and it is prime time to get those legs moving by hiking in the greater Delhi Area. If you know where to look, there is no shortage of beautiful hiking locations within a quick drive of Delhi.

Photo of the SUNY Delhi Outdoor Education Center

The Gribley Trail is a 3 mile trail located on Sheldon Drive passing behind Delaware Academy. This trail makes a loop yet provides options to connect with Frightful Falls Trail and Bulldog Run Trail depending on the length and elevation you would like to hike. Together these three trails make up the Delhi Trails at Mt. Crawford

The Smith Pond Trail is an easy 1.1 mile hike with its trailhead on Route 28 opposite of Delaware Academy. It follows the West Branch of the Delaware River through grasslands and mixed forest.

For a trail intended to provide a full body workout, visit the Community Fitness Trail. This half mile trail has six fitness features and two picnic tables.

The SUNY Delhi Outdoor Education Center is a 40 acre park with trails that meander through old farm fields and dip down to the Delaware River. There is a labyrinth, a butterfly garden, fishing access, picnic tables and education markers sharing knowledge of native trees.

The Bramley Mountain Trail is a 4 mile loop that passes through an abandoned bluestone quarry, past small cliffs and caves, with expansive views at the top.

Spring is a unique time to hike as the undergrowth is still matted from the winter snow and the leaves have yet to arrive. This allows for wonderful views that wouldn’t otherwise be visible. Take advantage of this time of year and the gorgeous trails that the Catskill 3500 Club have worked so hard to establish. See you out there!
