Farmers' Market Spotlight: Love and Lemons Organic

A cold glass of freshly made lemonade on a summer afternoon is pretty hard to beat. But at Love and Lemons Organic, what's happening behind the lemonade stand may be even sweeter than what's in the cup.

This mother-daughter-owned Upstate New York business is built around a simple idea: show girls what's possible when they learn how to turn an idea into a business.

Love and Lemons Organic began during a summer afternoon spent fishing. Founder Stephanie was thinking about her love of Montessori education and the importance of experiential learning when her daughter offered a wonderfully simple observation: “You make a lot of lemonade.”

And there it was.

Lemonade became both the business and the teaching tool—a tangible way to explore entrepreneurship, creativity, money and the possibilities that come from building something of your own. As Love and Lemons puts it, teaching girls how to build businesses gives them more choices in life.

So, What Are They Pouring?

The lemonade itself gets plenty of attention, too.

Love and Lemons Organic makes its lemonades from scratch and to order using organic ingredients. Instead of artificial syrups and dyes, flavors are created with real fruit purées. Their original recipe uses organic cane sugar, and local honey is also offered as a sweetener. The business has also moved to plastic-free service as part of its commitment to sustainability.

Depending on the season, you may even find hot lemonade at market when Delaware County temperatures start dropping.

Along with lemonade, Love and Lemons sells breads and pastries, produces limited-run seasonal merchandise, including its 2026 summer T-shirt available in both youth and adult sizes.

The Business Behind the Lemonade

This is where Love and Lemons Organic gets particularly interesting.

Stephanie describes herself as having a “Library Card MBA,” grounded in the belief that learning, resourcefulness and entrepreneurial thinking shouldn't be limited to people with access to traditional business education.

Love and Lemons is putting that philosophy into practice through free business workshops for girls, local library programming and plans for Organic Lemonade University™. The goal is to give girls real-world exposure to entrepreneurship and help them understand that their own ideas have value—and can make money.

Their philosophy can be summed up in four words:

“See it, Be it.”
